Successful first tests of SARA tethered drone autonomous flight function: following a car

Caserta, Italy, 29th of July 2019

New tests were successfully conducted today in #Caserta for The SARA project #H2020!
The tests were performed to experience the SARA tethered drone during an autonomous flight, following a car equipped with a SARA hangar integrated with GNSS receiver (including Galileo). Galileo receivers onboard of the SARA drone allow determination of the baseline with outstanding precision. A speed of 5 knots was achieved in these tests. Next step will be 10 knots with more changes of direction.

Stay tuned for next tests. In September a test will be performed directly on the Navigator vessel in Szczecin, Poland to experience the search and rescue solution using #Galileo for surveillance operations in maritime environment.
In the final version the RPA will navigate at the same speed of the ship, holding the same relative position, and the nose of the aircraft will always follow the ships navigation direction.
